Commonwealth Games: Aussies nab Gold in Men’s Beach Volleyball thriller

The Australian pair of Chris McHugh and Damien Schumann overcame a late fightback from Canada to take out the Gold Medal in the Men’s Beach Volleyball overnight.

With the iconic Coolangatta Beach in the background, the Australians beat their Northern Hemisphere counterparts 21-19, 18-21, 18-16.

For most of the afternoon, the match was on a knife-edge and Schuman said he still can’t believe they won.

The Australian Women’s side were not as lucky in their Gold Medal match against Canada, but they didn’t go down without a fight.

Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho Del Solar pushed Canada’s Melissa Humana-Paredes and Sarah Pavanto the brink in the final match of the tournament.

While the Aussie girls beat the Canadians to 19 points in both sets and served for the second set, the Canadians fought back to win 2-0.
