Community rallies behind Gold Coast house fire victims

STRANGERS are rallying together to help support two Gold Coast families whose homes were ravaged by fire.

Tragedy struck the Mudgeeraba community on Friday when a family’s home went up in flames on Rainbow Drive.

The fire was so fierce, it quickly consumed the home before spreading to the neighbours house.

Fire crews rushed to the scene to find a large amount of black smoke billowing from the properties.

They did what they could to save the homes, but sadly, it was too late.

In the wake of the tragedy, the local Mudgeeraba community is rallying together to support the affected families.

It’s understood one of the families own a local discount store and are an “integral part” of the community.

The Mudjira Village Eatery will donate $5 from every ‘Benny Burger’ they sell on Monday to the family.

“They are a very integral part of the Mudgeeraba Village, so we’d like to do our part to help,” the Eatery said on Facebook.

“On Monday we’ll be donating $5 from every Benny Burger to our friends Steff and Lisa from the Dollar shop.”

The local Eatery has also turned its tip jar into a donation tin to help the family get back on their feet.

Meanwhile, the Mudgeeraba Lawn Bowls Club is also doing its bit to help and will hold a fundraising day for both families.

“One of these families is very close to our heart at the club and we would love to be able to help them all out,” the Club said.

The local Club also plans on holding a silent auction on the day, Sunday 3 March, and are seeking donations.

“Any donation is wonderful, big or small. When you have lost everything, the smallest of things matter,” the Club said.

“It would be great to see our wider community there on the third. All proceeds will be split between the two families.”

The fundraising day will include barefoot bowls from 11am and lunch from 12 noon with raffles and live music.

If you want to help or have something you would like to donate to the family or to be auctioned off, please contact Mudgeeraba Lawn Bowls Club on Facebook, or call them on (07) 5530 5834.
