Concerns Aussies may be on sunken Indonesian boat

THE Department of Foreign Affairs is still trying to confirm whether any Australians are among the missing, after a tourist boat sank in eastern Indonesia.

10 foreign tourists and 5 Indonesians are missing after the vessel sank on Saturday as it made its way from Lombok Island to Komodo Island.

Those rescued were from New Zealand, Britain, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany and France, all received medical treatment.

The Australian Embassy in Jakarta and the Australian Consulate-General in Bali were urgently seeking details from local authorities to learn whether any Australians were on board.

If anyone has concerns for the welfare of family or friends in the region should attempt to directly contact them, or to call DFAT’s 24-hour Consular Emergency Centre.
