Concerns held for tourist missing in Qld since May

Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate a Canadian tourist missing in far north Queensland for more than three months.

Maxime Gagnon was last seen at a backpacker’s hostel on the Cairns Esplanade in the last week of May this year.

Police said that despite desperate attempts, they have failed to locate the 29-year-old.

“Enquiries to date have failed to locate Mr Gagnon and police hold concerns for his safety.”

“We initially believed Mr Gagnon was in the Cairns area and possibly heading south, however we have had no sightings or information relating to his whereabouts,” Detective Senior Sergeant Damien Powell of the Missing Persons Unit said.

“Given his intention to look for temporary accommodation in backpacker’s hostels and work locally, we are urging anyone in the backpacking community to keep an eye out and help us with any information.”

Mr Gagnon is described as 180cm tall, Caucasian in appearance, proportionate build with blue eyes and brown hair.
