Hey Australia, it’s time to get excited – SBS has confirmed we will once again be competing in the world’s biggest song contest, Eurovision.
SBS made the announcement at its 2016 program launch in Sydney this morning.
“SBS is thrilled to have secured this opportunity for Australia to compete at Stockholm in 2016 and thank the European Broadcasting Union for their invitation,” SBS chief executive Michael Ebeid said.

“The Eurovision Song Contest is a wonderful example of cultural diversity and social inclusion and our continued participation offers a fantastic opportunity to showcase Australian musical talent in a truly international multicultural celebration.”
The artist representing Australia will be announced in the New Year, with Eurovision adding that it is yet to be decided if Australia would become a permanent participant in the contest.
This year, Guy Sebastian scored fifth place in the Eurovision Song Contest, with the song Tonight Again.
The 2016 Eurovision contest will take place next May in Sweden.
