According to not one but two recent studies – and they’re quality studies from bang-up schools too, the Washington State University and Harvard Medical School – red wine is actually good for us.
The studies found that two glasses of red wine before bed could actually help you to lose weight.

According to the researchers behind these very important revelations, red wine contains a specific type of micronutrient called “resveratrol”, which transforms what is known as “white fat” into “beige fat”.
Apparently, in very simplistic terms, beige fat is easier to burn off than white fat.
Ergo, drinking red wine is practically as good for us as a 45-minute workout at the gym*.
“Polyphenols in fruit, including resveratrol, increase gene expression that enhances the oxidation of dietary fats so the body won’t be overloaded,” Professor Min Du from Washington State University says.
“They convert white fat into beige fat that burns lipids off as heat – helping to keep the body in balance and prevent obesity and metabolic dysfunction.”
Professor Du said that blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, apples and grapes are all rich in this tiny yet powerful ingredient.
However, here’s the fine print: the researcher also warned that many of wine’s beneficial components “are insoluble and get filtered out during the wine production process”.
Kinda the same way that processing honey strips out much of the incredible healing powers of its raw syrupy goodness.
Which means, obviously, there is far more nutritional benefit in eating blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, apples and grapes directly, than there is in glugging down another glass of pinot noir.
But why let the facts get in the way of a good story?
The bottom line here is: drinking red wine has health benefits. They may be minimal, but they exist. So don’t feel guilty topping up your glass tonight – your body may just thank you for it.
