Construction underway on second hotel and apartment tower at The Star Gold Coast

Construction has begun on The Star Gold Coast’s second $400 million hotel and apartment tower, a soaring 63-storey development that will feature 210 five-star hotel rooms as well as 457 apartments.

Expected to open in 2024, the tower is located on the most south-eastern part of Broadbeach Island and will form part of ‘The Star Residences Gold Coast’.

It will also house a new car park within a six-level podium structure, with more than 310 car parks in total, as well as dedicated bicycle spaces for residents.

The second tower forms part of the expanded masterplan for The Star Gold Coast, with the inaugural 53-storey tower – featuring Australia’s first Dorsett hotel and 422 apartments – on track for completion early next year.

The expanded masterplan is being delivered by Destination Gold Coast Consortium (DGCC), a joint venture between parent company, The Star Entertainment Group, and its two partners, Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and Far East Consortium.

Destination Gold Coast Consortium (DGCC) Project Director Jaime Cali said the 200 metre-plus tall tower will require more than 32,000m3 of concrete – enough to fill 17 Olympic sized swimming pools – to build, as well as over 8000 tonnes of reinforcing steel and more than 22,000m2 of window glazing.

“This second hotel and apartment tower is a significant development that will provide great job opportunities here on the Gold Coast,” Ms Cali said.

“We have 60 workers on site currently undertaking the piling and in-ground activities that will prepare the site for above-ground column construction.

“However, construction on the whole tower is expected to deliver 1800 direct and indirect jobs, reaching peak construction in 2023 when the tower is expected to require more than 500 people on site.”

Already 76 per cent of the one, two, and three-bedroom apartments in the second tower have been sold since pre-sales began in May 2019. Only two-bedroom apartments remain with prices ranging from $710,000 to around $1.1 million.

By the time the second tower opens in 2024, The Star Gold Coast will be the first integrated resort in Australia to offer four hotels, comprising close to 1200 hotel rooms and suites. In addition, it will provide nearly 900 apartments, enabling guests to enjoy all the comforts of luxurious apartment-living for the first time.

Both the first and second hotel and apartment towers will offer direct connectivity to The Star Gold Coast’s other integrated resort offerings and will feature a total of more than 12,050sqm additional retail and resort facilities.
