Controversial MP Billy Gordon to plead guilty to drink-driving

Controversial Queensland MP Billy Gordon will plead guilty to drink-driving and unlicensed driving charges.

The Cook MP was pulled over on the Kennedy Highway near Kuranda, north of Cairns, late on June 1, the night of State of Origin game one.

It’s alleged the independent state MP, who is  one of a handful of cross-benchers who hold the balance of power in parliament, was allegedly driving unlicensed when he returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.094 per cent, almost double the legal limit.

The matter was heard briefly in the Mareeba Magistrates Court on Monday.

Gordon was not required to appear.

His lawyer, speaking on the phone from Brisbane, indicated he would plead guilty when the matter returns to court on July 1.
