Cop attacked, punched in the face and strangled in Qld

A MAN has been arrested and charged after a police officer was attacked, punched in the face and strangled, during a fight in Mount Isa overnight.

Police say they were called to break up a fight between a group of people at the Mt Isa Racecourse at around 10.30pm.

On arrival, officers attempted to separate the group when a man allegedly punched a male constable in the face.


The man then allegedly attempted to strangle the officer.

The 29-year-old Constable was transported to the Mount Isa Hospital for treatment to bruising to his face and concussion.

The 25-year-old man Soldiers Hill was eventually arrested and charged with serious assault police and obstruct police.

He is due to appear in in Mount Isa Magistrates Courts on September 26.
