Cops swoop after knife-wielding man holds up Gold Coast bakery

A MAN is on the run from police this afternoon after allegedly robbing a Gold Coast bakery at knife-point earlier today.

Police said the man burst into the Helensvale bakery on Lindfield Road wielding a knife just before midday.

He allegedly threatened a 35-year-old woman behind the counter and demanded she empty the till, but she refused.

Police said the man then reached over the counter and helped himself to money from the cash register.

He then fled the scene on foot with a stash of cash. He was last seen running towards Discovery Drive.

Police said there were no customers inside the bakery during the hold-up and no one was injured.

Officers have saturated the area in the search for the offender who remains at large.

He is described as being Caucasian in appearance with short blonde hair and blonde side burns.

Police said he was wearing a black t-shirt with a white circle on it.

Anyone who may have seen the man running away from the area around the time of the offence or may have any information that could assist police with their investigation is urged to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.
