Correctional officer charged over alleged sexual abuse of inmates

A Corrective Services NSW officer has been charged over the alleged ongoing sexual abuse of several female inmates.

The 63-year-old was first charged by detectives in February this year, however he’s now been hit with a further 36 charges following ongoing investigations by detectives from the State Crime Command’s Corrective Services Investigation Unit.

The charges include aggravated sexual assault victim under authority of offender (x8), aggravated indecent assault (x14), aggravated incite act of indecency (x4), misconduct in public office (x8), intimidation (x2) and introducing contraband to correctional centre.

Police will allege in court that the man sexually abused a further six female inmates at a correctional facility in Berkshire Park on numerous occasions between 2016 and 2018.

The man’s employment with Corrective Services NSW has since been suspended.

Investigations are continuing.
