THE GOLD Coast’s Council Chambers will be bathed in Maroon light tonight to celebrate Queensland Day.
Queensland Day is an annual celebration to mark the day the state was granted status as a self-governing colony in 1859.
Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said that Queensland Day has come to celebrate a ‘have a go spirit’ unique in Australia and responsible for the State’s resurgence in recent years.

“Queenslanders are bold, resilient and dare to dream big. We love the great outdoors and embrace the best lifestyle in Australia,” he said.
“Things are bigger and brighter here on the Gold Coast, and that’s why I urge our visitors to make Queensland Day a “Gold Coast Day” this weekend.”
