Council orders giant inflatable circus clowns be deflated

You wouldn’t want to be someone with a phobia of clowns on the Gold Coast at the moment…

Dozens of giant inflatable clowns have popped up all over the city and they’re causing quite a bit of a stir.

The clowns, which have randomly made their way into people’s front yards in Southport and Clear Island Waters, are currently the talk of the town – and council.

They belong to the Great Moscow Circus, who have set up at the Gold Coast Italo-Australian Club in Clear Island Waters ahead of their shows which kick off tomorrow.

Whilst some may enjoy having a giant clown lurking in their front yard, others aren’t fans.

Speaking to media from council chambers on the Gold Coast on Monday, Councillor Cameron Caldwell said the circus has been given until the end of today to take the inflatables down.

“Council has taken proactive steps in relation to these circus clowns which have popped up across the coast,” Cr Caldwell said.

“We’re expecting action to be taken by 5.00pm today, but our local law officers will continue to work on that issue to make sure we’re keeping our city looking the way it should be and that all advertising is in accordance with the local laws.”
