Council planning committee rejects quarry plan

COUNCIL’S planning committee has rejected the development application for the controversial $2.2 billion Boral quarry planned for Reedy Creek.

The quarry, which has been subject to intense public outrage, would be the largest in Australia and second largest in the world.

The plan was rejected this morning after southern councillor Chris Robbins highlighted reasons why it should not be approved.

Concerns included the proposed location’s close proximity to homes, the loss of koala habitat and earthworks around local waterways.

The application will now be put to a vote at a full council meeting on Friday where it’s expected to also be blocked.
