Council to combat surf rage and overcrowding
GOLD Coast City Council has called in surfing groups to help tackle surf rage and overcrowding on Coast beaches.
The Council is wanting to implement a surf management plan to address the increasing problem.
A number of ideas have been floated, including implementing fees to surf at popular breaks.
But Mayor Tom Tate says he doesn’t support implementing a surf tax.
“Breaks are public assets that have benefited from significant ratepayer investment and belong to everyone,” he said.
It comes as a number of assault incidents have occurred at popular Gold Coast surfing spots.
