The Council is advising commuters to plan ahead next week when construction begins on the Supercars Castrol Gold Coast 600 race track.
The Gold Coast Highway will be reduced from six lanes to two near Macintosh Island from Monday 17 to Monday 24 October.
In a statement, the Council said: “The Gold Coast Highway may experience significant traffic delays as drivers get used to the road changes between Main Beach and Surfers Paradise.

“We want to encourage motorists to plan their journey to avoid sitting in traffic,” the statement said.
The Council had a number of travel tips including: catching the G:Link; travelling before 8am or after 6pm to avoid delays; or planning an alternative route to avoid the affected area entirely. Live traffic conditions are available on the Queensland Traffic website.
