Couple charged after baby found injured, not breathing in WA home

A MAN and woman have been charged with child abuse and neglect offences after a six-week-old baby was found seriously injured and not breathing at their home in South Australia.

Paramedics were called to the couple’s Whyalla home in June. When they arrived, they found the baby unresponsive and not breathing.

According to police, the infant had suffered significant injuries and was in respiratory arrest.

Following a protracted investigation, police arrested a 27-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman.

It’s understood the man is accused of inflicting the injuries on the baby.

He was yesterday charged with aggravated assault causing serious harm, aggravated assault causing harm and criminal neglect.

The woman has been charged with one count of criminal neglect.
