Couple hold up Lake Macquarie servo with iron bar

POLICE are searching for a man and a woman who robbed a service station in Lake Macquarie last night.

The duo had their faces covered when they burst into the servo on the Pacific Highway at Highfields around 6.30pm.

Police said the attendant had locked the doors, but the couple – one of whom was armed with an iron bar – forced their way inside.

The attendant then ran out the back and locked himself in a store room while the man and woman helped themselves to cash from the till.

Police were called and raced to the scene, but the armed couple had left the servo before they arrived.

The service station was declared a crime scene and was examined by forensic police overnight.

The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 175cm tall and a medium build, while the woman is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 165cm tall and a thin build.

At the time, the man was wearing black three-quarter shorts and black shoes while the woman was wearing blue tracksuit pants with white stripes.

Both had their faces covered.
