Court today for man after toddler was taken from Mudgeeraba

UPDATE: A 43-year-old man will appear in Southport Court on Thursday after he was charged with abducting his grandson from a home at Mudgeeraba.

Police will allege that at around 4.00pm on Tuesday the man removed the two-year-old from a home on Julie Way.

About three hours after issuing an Amber Alert the child was found safe and well at Coolangatta, after a member of the public spotted the vehicle which was the subject of the appeal.

The man will face one charge of abducting a child, and one of not ensuring the toddler was in a child restraint, when he appears in court on Thursday morning.

EARLIER: A two-year-old boy taken from a home at Mudgeeraba by his grandfather yesterday afternoon has been found.

Police confirmed the toddler had been located safe and well in Coolangatta around 9.00am Wednesday after police received a call from a member of the public who sighted the vehicle which had been the subject of a public appeal.

A 43-year-old man is currently assisting police with their investigations into the incident.

EARLIER: Police are desperately seeking public assistance to help locate a two-year-old boy who is missing on the Gold Coast and may be at significant risk.

Police say the two-year-old boy was driven from his home on Julie Way in Mudgeeraba around 4pm yesterday by his grandfather, 43-year-old Wayne Neale Pearson.

Police hold serious concerns for the toddlers safety as Mr Pearson is believed to have a medical condition and has not made contact with family – switching off his mobile phone, which is believed to be unusual.

At a press conference on Wednesday morning, D/Supt David Hutchinson said the grandfather and the child were sitting in his vehicle in the driveway of the Mudgeeraba home listening to music when at around 4pm, the mother realised that the vehicle had left the property.

The vehicle the pair are believed to be in is a red 1993 Toyota Landcruiser four-wheel-drive with Queensland registration 295-SZB.

Mr Pearson is described as being Caucasian, about 182cm tall with brown hair and a proportionate build.

The boy is described as being Caucasian in appearance, having auburn hair and green eyes.

EARLIER: Police are seeking urgent public assistance to help locate a two-year-old boy who is missing on the Gold Coast and may be at significant risk.

The boy was driven from a residence on Julie Way in Mudgeeraba around 4pm yesterday by a man who is known to the boy.

The man, 43-year-old Wayne Neale Pearson is described as being Caucasian, about 182cm tall with brown hair and a proportionate build.

The boy is described as being Caucasian in appearance, having auburn hair and green eyes.

It is believed they may be travelling in a red 1993 Toyota Landcruiser four-wheel-drive with Queensland registration 295-SZB.

The man has not contacted family or friends since leaving the residence and police hold serious concerns for the child’s safety as the man is believed to have a medical condition.
