Crash causes traffic mayhem in Southport

UPDATE: Two people have been taken to hospital following a multi-vehicle crash which has halted traffic on the Gold Coast Highway at Southport.

Emergency services are still on scene of the accident which occurred in the southbound lanes of the Sundale Bridge just before midday.

It has been reported that as many as four cars may have been involved.


Paramedics were seen on scene assessing multiple people.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said two people have been taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Their injuries are unknown.

Southbound traffic has been thrown into disarray, with major delays being experienced through the area.

Motorists have been urged to steer clear of the area with southbound traffic backed up almost three kilometres to the intersection of the Gold Coast Highway and Stevens Street (Musgrave Ave).

Those heading into the city from Smith Street (North Street) are also experiencing delays, as are those heading towards the water on Queen Street.
