Crash throws M1 holiday traffic into chaos

UPDATE: POLICE have reopened the Pacific Motorway northbound near Robina following an earlier traffic crash.

Delays are still being experienced as the traffic backlog slowly starts to clear.

6.00PM: POLICE are urging motorists to avoid the Pacific Motorway near Robina following a serious traffic crash.


It’s understood that up to five cars collided in the northbound lanes between Mudgeeraba and Robina shortly before 6pm.

A pregnant woman was believed to be trapped in one of the vehicles, but there are no reports of serious injuries.

Witnesses said the alleged vehicle at fault caught fire.

Northbound traffic has been brought to a standstill, with delays back to Burleigh.

Southbound motorists are also experiencing delays through the area.

Motorists have been urged to stay clear and seek an alternate route.

Further north, traffic is slowly picking up after an earlier four-car crash at Helensvale caused extreme delays back to Yatala.

EARLIER: A MULTI-VEHICLE crash has thrown holiday traffic into chaos on the Pacific Motorway this afternoon.

It’s understood that up to four cars collided nose-to-tail in the left hand southbound lane near Helensvale around 4pm.

At 5pm, extreme delays were still being experienced with traffic back to Ormeau.

Police, Paramedics and Fire and Emergency personnel remain on scene. Injuries are unknown.

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area if possible and make use of local service roads.

Further delays are also being experienced further south on the M1 through the roadworks zone at Worongary.
