Crash victim bitten by suspected brown snake

A motorbike rider has been rushed to hospital in a serious condition after being bitten by a suspected brown snake moments after crashing his bike in Central Queensland.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesman confirmed the male rider fell from his bike on a private property in Blackwater just after 11am.

The rider was then bitten on the lower leg by what is thought to have been a deadly brown snake.

He has been rushed to Emerald Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

It is believed the rider sustained only minor injuries in the initial crash, however his condition worsened immediately after being bitten by the venomous snake.

Paramedics applied pressure bandages at the scene and it is believed anti-venom will be administered as soon as the patient arrives at hospital.

Blackwater is a small coal mining town situated 190km west of Rockhampton.
