Crews responding to bushfire in Gold Coast Hinterland

FIRE CREWS are still trying to gain access to a large bushfire burning in the Gold Coast Hinterland this afternoon.

Initial information suggests the fire is burning in the area of Welches Road, Wongawallen Road and Tamborine-Oxenford Road.

The Guanaba Rural Fire Brigade has advised the fire is currently burning at the top of Tamborine mountain.

The size of the blaze remains unclear at this stage.

Although no homes are under threat, crews are believed to be undertaking some precautionary property protection.

There are multiple crews in attendance, including crews from Coomera Valley, Tamborine Mountain, Helensvale and Guanaba.

Crews have received a number of calls from concerned residents watching smoke billow from the mountain. Smoke is now becoming visible from northern areas of the Gold Coast, including Hope Island.

More to come.
