Crime scene set up after woman found dead in Gold Coast home

A murder investigation is underway on the Gold Coast this afternoon after an elderly woman was found dead inside a Varsity Lakes home.

Officers made the grim find inside a house on Gerona Circuit around 1.30pm on Thursday, after being asked to conduct a welfare check.

An 82-year-old man, who was also found inside the home, has been taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital where he remains under police guard.

A crime scene has been set up, with investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident ongoing.

Detective Inspector Chris Ahearn has confirmed the 82-year-old woman’s death is being treated as suspicious.

“It is early stages but obviously we are treating this death as suspicious,” Detective Inspector Ahearn told reporters from the crime scene this afternoon.

“We are currently on scene conducting investigations with neighbours and conducting a scene examination to get a better picture of what’s gone on here today.”

Police have confirmed they’re not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident at this stage.
