Detective Inspector Tim Trezise said it’s not known how long the woman’s body had been there for.
“It’s a tragic situation whenever a young person dies,” Detective Inspector Trezise said.
“She has died in a public park and we are not sure what has led to her being here.”
Police believe the woman was aged in her 20s, but forensic specialists will be required to formally identify the body.
Investigations are continuing, with police appealing for anyone in the area who noticed anything suspicious to contact them.
