UPDATE 3:00PM | POLICE have confirmed a woman who lost control of her car at a shopping centre in Sydney’s north-west, running over a six-year-old girl and smashing into half a dozen parked cars, was drunk.
The 50-year-old woman was allegedly almost six times over the legal limit when she rammed two stationary vehicles while attempting to reverse from a parking spot on Progress Avenue around 12.40pm AEDT.
Police said a six-year-old girl was attempting to cross between the parked vehicles when she was struck.

It’s understood the child sustained serious pelvic injuries after being crushed between the two vehicles.
She was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a critical condition.
Police say the girl’s condition has since been downgraded from critical to serious but stable. Her injuries are believed to be considered non-life-threatening.
It’s understood four other parked vehicles were also damaged in the incident. Police said a total of seven vehicles were involved in the collision.
NSW Police Inspector Anthony Boyd said the incident could have been “catastrophic”.
“The offending driver in this instance was heavily impaired by alcohol with an alcohol reading of approximately six times the legal limit,” Insp. Boyd said.
“Obviously with that level of impairment, this could have been a catastrophic incident involving a young lady which could have resulted in her death or in fact others.
“This is a small suburban shopping centre with multiple people around so it could have been a hell of a lot worse.”
Inspector Boyd said the 50-year-old woman was arrested a short distance away after trying to flee the scene.
She was subjected to a roadside breath test, which allegedly returned a positive result, before being taken to Ryde Police Station where police say she returned an official breath analysis reading of 0.303.
Officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit are continuing their inquiries into the events leading up to the crash.
