Critical investigation launched after boy killed in crash

A 17-YEAR-OLD boy has been killed in a horror single-vehicle crash on the NSW Mid North Coast.

A critical incident team has been deployed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident which happened at Cedar Party, between Taree and Wingham, around 2.30am on Saturday.

Police said the vehicle came to the attention of police shortly before it lost control and crashed on Cedar Party Rd.


A 17-year-old boy was killed in the collision, while a second 18-year-old passenger escaped with minor injuries.

The driver, a 20-year-old man, was taken to hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.

He aws then taken to Taree Police Station where he spent the morning assisting police with their inquiries.

A critical incident team is now investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

That investigation will be subject to independent review and all information will be provided to the Coroner.
