Critically injured driver found dying in ditch hours after crash

A TEENAGE driver has spent several hours lying in a ditch on the side of a road, critically injured and unable to move, after crashing his car on the Bruce Highway on Queensland’s Central Coast.

It’s understood the teen’s ute had left the highway and crashed into a culvert at Bajool, south of Rockhampton, sometime early on Thursday morning.

But it wasn’t until 6.30am that a passing motorist drove upon the scene of the crash between Magazine Road and Oakey Creek Road and raised the alarm.

Police said the 19-year-old driver was still trapped in the wreckage, which they believe went unnoticed in the ditch for “a number of hours” before it was discovered.

The teen was airlifted to Rockhampton Hospital where police said he remains this afternoon in a critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.
