Crowds gather on the GC for supercharged Aussie Premiere of Thor Ragnarok

Thousands of movie fans are lining a superhero-sized red carpet in Robina for the much-anticipated Australian premiere of Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok.

Kids dressed as the God of Thunder are standing beside their mums, all keen for a glimpse of the film’s star Chris Hemsworth, ahead of the screening at Event Cinemas.

The Aussie heart throb will be accompanied by a score of celebrities as well as the film’s director Taika Waititi and executive producer Brad Winderbaum.

Emily Jade O’Keefe from Hot Tomato’s breakfast show is there, waiting to pounce on Hemsworth with a cup of tea, just the way he likes it.

“The red carpet is lined with people. I’m super surprised and would say there is thousands of people here, including kids who are dressed as Thor,” EJ said.

“When you walk into the red carpet, they have two huge life-size figurines of Thor and the Hulk and the carpet is about four-to-five metres wide!”

A group of sick kids have already arrived via the red carpet. It’s believed they are the same children who had a visit from the stars when they were filming on the Gold Coast.

Kristie Pain from Event Cinemas said she had been impressed by the professionalism of the crew that arrived ahead of the screening, which comes on the back of the world premiere in Los Angeles last night.

“There are people from Disney Studios here who have been testing the screens, going through each and every cinema in the complex, to make sure the sound volumes are right,” Ms Pain said.

“It’s a really quite amazing process to see.”

“We’ve had a lot of premieres here before, but this is probably the biggest the country has ever seen.”

In the much-anticipated new film, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela.

But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger, the Incredible Hulk!
