Cyclist hit and killed by car on morning ride in Brisbane

AN early morning bike ride has ended in tragedy in Brisbane after a cyclist was hit and killed by a car.

The awful accident happened on Kate Street at Indooroopilly around 6:50 am on Wednesday, police said.

The cyclist was riding downhill with a friend when he collided head-on with a car near Boundary Road.

The rider, a 54-year-old man from Brookfield, suffered life-threatening injuries and sadly died at the scene.

A fleet of ambulances was dispatched to the scene, but sadly, there was nothing paramedics could do.

Although left shaken, the 37-year-old man behind the wheel of the car was not physically injured.

The Forensic Crash Unit is now investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.

It’s understood they are investigating whether the rider lost control of his bike moments before impact.

Any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police are being urged to come forward.
