Cyclist fighting for life after being hit by car in Southport

A cyclist has been rushed to hospital with life-threatening head injuries after being hit by a car at a busy intersection at Southport on the Gold Coast.

The 45-year-old rider was struck in the eastbound lanes of Nind Street, near the intersection with High Street just before 11.30am.

Entry to Nind Street was blocked from High and Johnston Streets while ambulance paramedics treated and stabilised the injured rider.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said the man suffered life threatening head injuries and was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.
