Cyclists injured after colliding with car door on Gold Coast road

Two cyclists have been hospitalised after a horror crash with a car door on the northern Gold Coast.

The accident happened along busy Oxley Drive in Runaway Bay just before 7.00am on Saturday.

A Queensland Police spokesperson told myGC initial inquires indicate a motorist was parked on the side of the road, when the driver opened the car door.


As a result, the door collected the two riders, who fortunately managed to escape with minor injuries.

One of the cyclists suffered a minor head injury, while the other had a hand injury.

The pair were treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in stable conditions.

The QPS spokesperson said police remained on scene at the crash site speaking with the driver to try and ascertain exactly what occurred.

Investigations are ongoing.
