Dad charged with leaving son, 6, in car for an hour while he went to the pub

A FATHER has been arrested and charged after allegedly leaving his six-year-old son locked in a car for more than an hour while he drank at a pub in Sydney’s west.

Police were called to Guildford Road at Guildford just before 11.30am on Friday after a council ranger spotted the young child sitting alone in the front seat of a parked car.

Police allege the child was left unattended in the vehicle for around an hour while the car’s engine and air conditioning were left running.

Officers removed the boy from the car and commenced an investigation to try and locate his parents.

A short time later, the child’s 32-year-old father was allegedly found inside a nearby hotel.

The man was arrested and taken to Parramatta Police Station where a police check revealed the man’s licence had been cancelled.

He has since been charged with a long list of offences, including leaving a child in a car likely to cause emotional distress, driving with child in the front seat and driving on a cancelled licence.

The 32-year-old will appear in Parramatta Local Court on January 30.
