A Severe Weather Warning has been issued for damaging winds and damaging surf for people in the Metropolitan, Hunter and Illawarra locations.
A fast-moving low pressure system is expected to develop off the Illawarra coast late Thursday or early on Friday, with winds near the coast becoming damaging by Friday morning.
This low pressure system is expected to move to the northeast, then further away from the coast later on Friday allowing winds to slowly ease.

Damaging winds around 70 km/h with peak gusts of 90 km/h are forecast on Friday for coastal parts of the Metropolitan, Hunter, including the Central Coast, and Illawarra forecast districts.
Very heavy surf which may lead to localised damage and coastal erosion is forecast on Friday for the Metropolitan, Hunter, including the Central Coast, and Illawarra forecast districts. Beach conditions in these areas could be dangerous and people should stay well away from the surf and surf exposed areas.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
- Keep clear of fallen power lines.
