Dangerous fugitive possibly armed: NSW police

NEW South Wales police are desperately trying to find a dangerous and potentially armed prisoner who has failed to return to a Central West treatment facility after day release.

Robert Cooper, 42, was last seen leaving the Bloomfield Psychiatric Facility at Orange about 10am yesterday.

Police believe that Mr Cooper is dangerous and that he may be armed, and is known to have links to Redfern, Narromine, Gilgandra and Dubbo.

The public has been warned not to approach him, but to contact triple zero (000) immediately.

He is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, 178cm tall, with a medium build, black hair with a shaved head, brown eyes and a trimmed beard.

At the time he left the facility, he was wearing a khaki hooded jumper, black jeans and joggers.

Mr Cooper was assessed after being charged and committed to the facility under a Section 33 order under the Mental Health Act.

Anyone who sees Robert Cooper or knows of his current whereabouts is urged to contact Triple Zero (000) immediately.
