Dangerous toys pulled from shelves in NSW ahead of Christmas

A PEPPA Pig family set and talking Thomas the Tank Engine are just some of the toys that have been seized by NSW Fair Trading from retailers.

As part of a pre-Christmas crackdown on dangerous toys, the NSW Department of Fair Trading inspected more than 700 stores and tested over 17,000 products.

Close to 100 dangerous toys have been pulled from discount stores, pop-up shops, markets and online websites.

Chris Barnes from Choice told the ABC many of the toys failed to meet Australian standards when tested in a lab.

“Typically, we find the worst toys come from the smaller traders, $2 type stories, pop-up stores,” he said

“Despite the fact that there are mandatory safety rules for toys, every year we do find hundreds of them that fail to meet them.”
