Daniel Maxwell sentenced over fatal Cole Miller assault

UPDATE @ 11.45am: Daniel Maxwell has been sentenced to 18 months jail over the fight that killed Sunshine Coast teenager Cole Miller in Fortitude Valley last year.

The 21-year-old New Zealand national was due to stand trial this week for unlawful striking causing the death of the 18-year-old elite water polo player, however, he instead pleaded guilty to assault and affray on Thursday.

Maxwell’s sentence has been suspended immediately because of time already served in prison.

He’ll now be handed over to Immigration, likely to be deported.

Armstrong Renata is already serving time for inflicting the fatal punch that killed Miller.

EARLIER @ 11.15am: A 21-year-old man will be sentenced today, after pleading guilty to lesser charges over the fight that killed Brisbane teen Cole Miller.

Daniel Maxwell was due to stand trial this week for unlawful striking causing the death of the 18-year-old elite water polo player in Fortitude Valley last year.

However, he instead pleaded guilty to assault and affray.

The sentence hearing is currently underway.
