The man who abducted and murdered Sunshine Coast teenager Daniel Morcombe in 2003 has been given permission to use a new name while in prison.
Brett Peter Cowan has been returned to a unit with inmates at Wolston Correctional Centre, after having boiling water tipped over his head and being beaten with the bucket last month.
The Courier-Mail reports Cowan has been given permission to use his legally changed name, Shaddo N-unyah Hunter, inside jail.
The paper says his name has changed on his prison identification card and within the prison’s Integrated Offender Management System.
In 2014 Cowan was convicted of murdering Daniel and handed a life sentence.
