QUEENSLAND’s Darcy Roper has taken out the boys U18s long jump final at the Australian All Schools Championship in Melbourne overnight.

Roper took to the runway for a 7.66m (w:+1.1) opening jump which saw him secure both a World Youth Qualifier and a gold medal ahead of New South Wales’ David Chen who leaped 7.28m to secure second, whilst Tasmanian sprint sensation Jack Hale rounded out the top-three with a 7m jump.

The two will now turn their attention to the U18s 100m, where they are set to star alongside West Australian and Commonwealth Youth Games representative Lachlan McDermott.

With Hale being both the national record holder and national champion for his age, he will start as favourite.

As a whole, Queensland managed to dominate on day 1 coming away with nine golds, four silver and four bronze.
