Darwin rattled by 6.6 magnitude earthquake in Banda Sea
Darwin residents have been woken by a strong earthquake which struck in the Banda Sea this morning.
The 6.6 magnitude quake was felt in Darwin just before 6.00am.
“Certainly felt this #tremor this morning, the bed was literally shaking,” one resident wrote on Twitter.
“Just felt the biggest earthquake yet in Darwin, decent amount of shaking and noise. More than a little bit concerning being in a top floor apartment,” commented another.
The Bureau of Meteorology has confirmed there’s no tsunami threat to Australia.
“As most of you in #Darwin are probably aware, there was a 6.6 #earthquake this morning at 5:44 am CST in the Banda Sea,” BOM Northern Territory wrote.
“There is NO threat of a tsunami to Australia.”
