Daughter of Olympian Tyson Gay shot dead

The 15-year-old daughter of American Olympic sprinter Tyson Gay, has been fatally caught in the crossfire of a shooting in Kentucky.

The coroner’s office for Fayette County confirmed that Trinity Gay passed away at the University of Kentucky Medical Center on Sunday.

Officers attended the parking lot of a restaurant near the University of Kentucky campus in Lexington around 4am on Sunday, after witnesses reported gunfire was exchanged between two vehicles.

They stopped one of the vehicles and questioned the two people inside, according to a statement by Lexington police.

A spokesperson for the police said they don’t believe Trinity Gay was in either of the vehicles.

Tyson Gay won silver in the 4×100-metre relay at the 2012 London Games, but was stripped after he tested positive for steroids in 2013.

Gay competed in the past three Summer Olympics.

Trinity Gay was also a sprinter at Lafayette High in Lexington, where her dad’s 2001 record in the 100 still stands.

Police are still searching for the second vehicle involved.
