DAY ONE: Schoolies praised for behaviour on first night of celebrations

Police have reported good behaviour from Schoolies on the first night of celebrations on the Gold Coast.

Thousands of school-leavers last night flocked to the streets of Surfers Paradise to mark the beginning of the week-long event.

A Queensland Police spokesperson told myGC the response so far has been extremely positive, with officers reporting “good interactions” with graduates.

Just two Schoolies were arrested overnight, with 11 ‘toolies’ also taken into custody on the Glitter Strip.

It was a busier night for paramedics, with 45 schoolies treated at the on-site Emergency Treatment Centre.

Of those, three needed to be taken to hospital for further treatment.

Day two continues today, with around 20,000 teens expected during the week of celebrations.
