Death toll from NSW bushfires rises to four

NEW South Wales Police have confirmed the body of a man has been found fire-ravaged bushland on the state’s Mid North Coast, taking the death toll from the state’s bushfire crisis to four.

The body was found by locals on the southern end of the Kyuna Track at Willawarrin, about 34km from Kempsey, shortly before midnight on Wednesday.

Police say the man is yet to be formally identified but they believe it is the body of a 58-year-old man who lived in a shed nearby.

Officers from Mid North Coast Police District have been told the man was last seen on Friday.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death and confirm identity.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
