“Democracy Sausage” Australia’s 2016 word of the year
Australians love affair with a sausage sizzle on election day – has seen “democracy sausage” crowned Australia’s 2016 word of the year.
The Australian National Dictionary Centre defines the term as “a barbecued sausage served on a slice of bread, bought at a polling booth sausage sizzle on election day”.
The term’s history dates back to 2012 – but gained popularity during this year’s federal election.
