Hunt continues for Gold Coast hotel quarantine escapee

A young woman remains on the run this morning after a brazen escape from hotel quarantine on the Gold Coast.

The 24-year-old is believed to have fled the Sofitel in Broadbeach sometime on Tuesday night by forcing her way out through a sliding glass door.

However, police are reviewing the hotel’s CCTV network in a bid to determine the woman’s exact movements.

It’s understood authorities only discovered the woman was missing when she could not be located in her room the following morning.

According to Queensland Police, the woman had been directed to quarantine at the hotel for 14 days on August 2.

It’s not yet known exactly where the woman had arrived from, although it has been confirmed she had previously returned a negative COVID-19 test.

A major search continues this morning, with the woman appearing to elude Gold Coast police.

Anyone with information on the woman’s whereabouts is urged to come forward.
