Pets missing after devastating house fire on the Gold Coast

UPDATE 9:00 PM | THREE pet cats are missing after a fire destroyed a house on the southern Gold Coast.

The Holbrook Way rental property went up in flames behind the Pines Shopping Centre at Elanora around 7pm.

A couple who live in the home and were initially unaccounted for were later found safe at a football game.

It’s understood a woman who spotted the inferno jumped a fence to rescue the couple’s dog.

Sadly though, the pair’s three pet cats remained missing at the time of writing.

The couple are said to have lost everything in the blaze, which quickly took hold of the house.

It’s understood fire crews were able to extinguished the fire within 30 minutes, but not before it gutted part of the home.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known.

At least one person is believed to be missing after flames tore through the Holbrook Way home behind The Pines Shopping Centre at Elanora.

Firefighters were called to the home around 7pm and arrived to find the property well alight.

Thick smoke shrouded the nearby shopping centre and surrounding streets as the fire took hold of the home.

The scene is crawling with firefighters and police, with paramedics on standby.

Police have closed the street near Aracucaria Way while emergency services respond to the incident.

No further information was available at the time of writing.
