‘Cowardly act of terror’ – Pedestrians run down, killed by driver in NYC

EIGHT people are dead, and dozens more injured after a vehicle ploughed into pedestrians on a busy New York City bike path.

The horror incident happened at West Street and Chambers Street in Lower Manhattan around 3.15pm on Tuesday afternoon.

“The vehicle struck multiple people on the path. There are several fatalities and numerous people injured,” NYPD tweeted.

The driver of the utility then emerged from the vehicle shouting and threatening people with “imitation firearms.”

“The vehicle continued south striking another vehicle. The suspect exited the vehicle displaying imitation firearms & was shot by NYPD,” police confirmed.

The attacker, believed to be a 29-year-old male, is still alive and has been taken into custody.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has confirmed the incident was a “cowardly act of terror”.
