Doctor hit with IV pole, nurse spat on during attack at Qld hospital

A DOCTOR has been hit with an IV pole and a nurse spat on during a sickening attack at Townsville Hospital.

Police said the incident happened around 2.45pm on Friday, April 27.

“It will be alleged a man assaulted a doctor by striking him in the arm with an IV pole and spat on a nurse before being restrained by security staff until police arrived,” officers said in a statement.


A 37-year-old man from Stuart has since been charged with count each of serious assault a public officer performing a function causing bodily harm whilst armed with a weapon, serious assault a public officer performing a function by spitting and conduct causing a public nuisance under the Hospital and Health Boards Act.

The man was denied police bail and appeared in the Townsville Magistrates Court on Saturday where he was remanded in custody to re-appear today.
