Donald Trump flown to hospital after contracting coronavirus

US President Donald Trump has been airlifted to hospital less than 24 hours after testing positive to coronavirus.

A helicopter landed at the White House this morning to transport the President to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre.

A spokesperson for the White House said Trump is being flown to hospital “out of an abundance of caution”.

“President Trump remains in good spirits, has mild symptoms, and has been working throughout the day,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

“Out of an abundance of caution, and at the recommendation of his physician and medical experts, the president will be working from the presidential offices at Walter Reed for the next few days.”

It comes after the President and First Lady Melania were diagnosed with the virus yesterday.

“President Trump appreciates the outpouring of support for both he and the first lady,” the White House statement concluded.

The President also released his own video statement on Twitter a short time ago.
