Doors ripped off car in crash with cement truck

TWO women have been taken to hospital after the car they were travelling had its doors ripped off in a horror crash at Wollongong this afternoon.

Police said two cars and a cement truck were involved in the accident which occurred on Windang Road at Windang just before 2pm.

Both the front and rear passenger doors of one of the vehicles involved were ripped off in the collision.

Two female occupants of the vehicle were treated at the scene before being taken to Wollongong Hospital.

One woman is understood to have been flown to St George Hospital in a serious but stable condition with lower limb injuries, as well as a possible shattered pelvis. It’s believed she was a passenger in the car.

The second woman who police said was driving the car at the time of the crash sustained minor injuries.

Meanwhile, the male truck driver and the male driver of the second vehicle escaped uninjured. They were, however, both assessed by paramedics at the scene for shock.

Officers attached to Lake Illawarra Local Area Command attended the crash site and established a crime scene.

Police said a woman is currently assisting crash investigators with their inquiries.
